Vision and Mission:
The fundamental mission is to develop students’ critical reading ,writing and creative skills through the study of various literatures in the English language, composition and creative writing.
Objectives:
- i) To enhance the level of literary and aesthetic experience of students and to help them responds creatively.
- ii) To sensitize students to the major issues in the society and the world.
- iii) To help them think and write imaginatively and critically.
- iv) To broaden their outlook and sensibility and acquaint them with cultural diversity and divergence in perspectives.
- v) To enable the learner to communicate effectively and appropriately in real life situations;
- vi) To use English effectively for study purpose across the curriculum;
- vii) To develop interest in and appreciation of literature;
- viii) To develop and integrate the use of four language skills i.e. Reading, Writing , Listening and Speaking.
Nature of BA English Programme:
BA English literature imparts basic knowledge of the English language and literature of different eras and ages. The academic course will train the students to understand the key aspects of the subject, will develop an independent and creative thinking process, and will also enhance students communication skills. A study of English literature allows students to explore the different eras of English composition and prominent writers in those times.
Future Plans of the Department:
- Encourage students to pursue higher studies.
- Encourage students to prepare for various competitive examinations.
- To develop basic concepts of morality, ethics, values and virtues among students.
- To organize debate, declamation, story telling competition, essay writing competition, poem recitation competition , enactment of plays and dramas, vocabulary building sessions for overall development of the students in the session 2022-23.
Career Options for English Graduates:
A degree in literature can open up an array of job roles and can fetch a position in the majority of the sectors. Though one can choose to pursue a degree in MA English , followed by a PhD in English but students of literature can also find employment opportunities in the following areas
